What a Simulator Bay Needs Electrically
A golf simulator installation involves more electrical work than most people anticipate. The launch monitor, projector or screen display, simulator PC, and any auxiliary equipment all require power, ideally on a clean, dedicated circuit to prevent interference. The projector or screen needs to be positioned and powered without cables crossing the hitting area.
Lighting in a simulator bay needs to be controlled carefully, too much ambient light washes out the projected image, but sufficient illumination is needed for safety and practicality when not in use. We install dimmable lighting or separate circuits for bay lighting and ambient lighting so the room works for both.
Home Simulator Installations
Home simulator bays are typically installed in garages, converted rooms, or purpose-built spaces. We assess the existing electrical infrastructure in the space and advise on what is needed, in most residential garages, a new circuit or two is required, along with additional outlets positioned to keep cables out of the swing path.
We also install data points for the simulator PC and network connection, and can assist with projector mounting and cable management so the finished result is clean and functional.
Commercial Simulator Facilities
Commercial simulator venues, training centres, entertainment venues, and golf academies, have more complex electrical requirements. Multiple bays, commercial-grade projectors, high-load equipment, and the need for reliable continuous operation all require a properly designed and installed electrical infrastructure.
We are the preferred electrician for a golf simulator training facility in Melbourne's eastern suburbs. We understand the specific requirements of commercial simulator installations and can work with your simulator supplier and fitout contractor to deliver a result that works.
Projector and AV Wiring
Ceiling-mounted projectors require a power point at the ceiling mount location and HDMI or display cable run to the source equipment. We install the power point, run and terminate the AV cable, and ensure everything is neatly concealed. If the room has a suspended ceiling, concealment is straightforward. In plasterboard or concrete ceilings, we advise on the most practical approach.
Data and Network
A simulator PC typically requires both power and a wired network connection for software updates, course downloads, and online play. We run Cat6 data cabling to the simulator location as part of the installation, ensuring a stable wired connection rather than relying on WiFi, particularly important in metal-clad garages where wireless signals are unreliable.
Frequently Asked
Yes. Running the simulator, projector, PC, and any ancillary equipment from a shared circuit risks nuisance tripping and can introduce electrical interference that affects the launch monitor. A dedicated circuit for the simulator equipment is the right approach.
Yes. We coordinate with simulator suppliers, AV installers, and fitout contractors. Send us the electrical requirements from your simulator supplier before the quote and we confirm what is needed from the electrical side.
Potentially. Launch monitors and simulator software rely on a stable network connection. We install a hardwired Cat6 data point at the simulator location as standard, which resolves WiFi reliability issues in garages entirely.
Yes. We install dimmable circuits or separate switching for bay lighting so you can reduce ambient light during play without plunging the room into complete darkness. Smart lighting controls are also an option if you want automation.
