Induction Cooktops

Induction cooktops require a dedicated circuit from the switchboard, correctly sized for the cooktop's load rating. Some models connect via a plug and socket; others are hardwired directly to the fixed wiring. Most 60–90 cm induction cooktops draw 7–10 kW and require a 32–40 amp circuit.

Where you are replacing a gas cooktop with induction, a new circuit is always required — gas cooking does not use a dedicated electrical circuit. We run the circuit, fit a suitable isolation switch and install the appliance, and issue the Certificate of Electrical Safety.

Electric Ovens

Electric ovens typically require a dedicated circuit. Most single ovens draw 2-3.5 kW; double ovens draw more. Where an oven is being replaced like-for-like, the existing circuit may be reused provided it is in good condition and correctly sized for the new appliance.

Where the new oven has different electrical requirements, a larger load, a different connection type, we assess the existing circuit and advise before installation.

Gas to Electric Conversions

Converting from gas cooking to full induction requires running new circuits for both the cooktop and the oven if neither currently has an electrical connection. We assess your switchboard capacity, run the required circuits, and make the connections. The gas isolation and removal of the gas fitting is a plumber's scope, we handle the electrical side.

Switchboard Capacity

Kitchen appliances are among the highest-load items in a home. Adding induction cooking to a property that previously had gas can add 10-15 kW of additional load. We check your switchboard capacity as part of every kitchen electrical quote, if an upgrade is required, we tell you upfront.
