What We Do

We hold a restricted heat pump and split system licence. This allows us to handle refrigerants and carry out the full installation and decommissioning of the following systems:

— A single-head split system air conditioner of less than 18kW — A 2-part hot water heat pump of less than 18kW — A 2-part swimming pool heat pump of less than 18kW

For systems outside this scope — multi-head, ducted, or units above 18kW — we carry out all electrical work and coordinate with a qualified refrigeration mechanic for the refrigeration side.

Our electrical work includes running the dedicated circuit from the switchboard to the outdoor unit location, fitting the isolator switch adjacent to the outdoor unit, and connecting the inter-unit cable between the indoor and outdoor heads.

Single and Multi-Head Split Systems

A single-head split system typically requires one dedicated circuit. Multi-head systems, where one outdoor unit serves multiple indoor heads, require a single appropriately-sized circuit to the outdoor unit, with inter-unit cables running from the outdoor unit to each indoor head.

The circuit size depends on the total capacity of the system. We confirm the electrical requirements from the manufacturer specifications before running the circuit.

Ducted Systems

Ducted air conditioning systems have higher electrical demands and often require a larger circuit or a three-phase connection for larger capacity units. We assess the system requirements and advise if the existing electrical infrastructure is adequate or if upgrades are needed.

Switchboard Capacity

Adding air conditioning circuits to an already-loaded switchboard is a common issue in existing homes. We check available capacity before running new circuits. Where the switchboard is at capacity, a switchboard upgrade may be required, we quote this separately and clearly.

Working with Your Installer

If you already have a refrigeration mechanic arranged, we coordinate with them on timing. The refrigeration mechanic completes their work first — mounting the units and running the refrigerant lines — then we complete the electrical connections, including the dedicated circuit, isolator, and inter-unit cabling.
